Terms of service
Last updated 19 September 2026
These terms cover your use of Lore, a personal journal app for iPhone, and of this website. Lore is made and run by an individual developer in the European Union. There is no company behind it. By using Lore you accept what is written here.
1. What the service is
Lore is an app for keeping a personal journal: you write about your life, optionally import what you already track, and search it afterwards. It is distributed in beta through Apple TestFlight and is free while it is in beta. Features may appear, change or disappear between builds.
2. Your account
You need an account, created with an email address and a password. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell me if you think someone else has got into it.
You must be at least 16 to use Lore.
3. Your content stays yours
Everything you write and import is yours. I claim no ownership of it and no licence to it beyond what is needed to run the app for you — storing it, indexing it so you can search it, and processing it when you ask Lore to do something with it. It is described in detail in the privacy policy. Your journal is not published, not shared, and not used to train generalised models.
You are responsible for what you put in. If your journal mentions other people — and a journal does — keep that to yourself as you would a paper one.
4. Acceptable use
Don't:
- use Lore to store or distribute anything unlawful, or anything you have no right to hold;
- try to reach another user's data, break the app's security, or test it for holes without asking me first;
- automate, scrape or hammer the service in a way that degrades it for anyone else;
- resell or redistribute the app or a build of it.
5. Connected sources
Connecting Gmail, Calendar or Photos is optional and under your control. You may disconnect at any time in the app, and Gmail access can also be revoked at myaccount.google.com/permissions. What Lore reads and keeps from each is set out in the privacy policy.
6. The beta, and the absence of promises
Lore is provided as is, during a beta, by one person. There is no guarantee that it is available, that it is free of bugs, that a feature will keep working, or that data will never be lost. Automatic extraction — a date read out of a booking, a name matched to a person — can be wrong, which is why Lore asks you to confirm it.
Keep your own copies of anything you cannot lose. The app can export your journal entries and events to your phone at any time, and that export is your backup.
To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for lost data, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from using Lore. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
7. Ending it
You can stop using Lore whenever you like, and ask for your account and all its data to be deleted by writing to anton.vasilenko00@gmail.com. I may suspend or close an account that breaks section 4, or that puts the service or another person at risk. I may also end the beta, or the service itself; if that happens, testers get reasonable notice and a chance to export first.
8. Changes to these terms
These terms can change as the app does. The date at the top changes with them, and a material change is announced to beta testers by email. Continuing to use Lore after a change means you accept the new terms.
9. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of the developer's place of residence in the European Union, without affecting the consumer protections of the country you live in. Questions, complaints and requests all go to the same place: anton.vasilenko00@gmail.com.
